Has it really been a month since I last posted? Not so good at record-keeping these days... sorry girls! Their baby books sit upstairs in their room - untouched aside from a few details about their birth - so I figured the blog would serve a dual purpose... my bad. So, to catch up, I'll write a little at a time and try to backfill what we've all been up to over the last month (and a half).
Let's start with the big news - the girls are sleeping through the night!!! We implemented CIO (cry-it-out) on November 7th at 1:00 AM. While we typically don't make executive decisions at that time of night - we were tired and about at our wits end... at that point all the girls had been up once and two were already up for the second time! We were d-o-n-e. During the two weeks prior, the girls had gradually stopped finishing their overnight bottles and were beginning to just want to play. The doctor told me that we'd know when it was time to "lay down the hammer" and boy was he right. While I'm not going to say the process was enjoyable - the sleep since sure has been!
I'm not sure if we should document the 6th or the 7th as Day 1 of CIO, but if we start with the 6th I definitely won the Hadley-Mom battle (only took her about 20 minutes to get herself to sleep and stay that way...) However, the Ryann-Mom battle was an outright draw - I cannot claim victory, Ryann finally fell asleep due to pure exhaustion (she was up a little over THREE HOURS!!!). Let's just say Ryann is slightly stubborn - who would have guessed (insert sarcasm here)?!
We had backup for day 1.2 of CIO (11/7) - Grandma and Papa (Miles) were in town and ready for battle. To be honest - it didn't turn into too big of a battle. Day 1.2 Brynley and Hadley cried/yelled/screamed for approximately 1.5 and 1.75 hours respectively (guess they're a little stubborn too?). The problem was that every time one of them got close to drifting off the other would begin her crying jag - not soothing. The most entertaining portion of this night was when Ryann woke up - stood up in her crib, basically glared at her sisters (keep in mind, she didn't get much sleep the night before due to the Ryann vs. Mom battle), banged frogger, and then crawled to the corner of her crib and went to sleep. Funny little girl. Day 2 of CIO was probably the longest - they each had about a 40-minute jag, not bad when you think about it. Unfortunately, none of the jags were at the same time - meaning three 40-minute crying jags beginning around 1:00 am (not so fun). Since then, they've all had an episode here and there, but nothing too traumatic and no one has eaten or gotten out of their cribs since our executive decision.
Good Job Girls!
So that's the big news for the moment.. Hadley and Ryann have gotten to
be expert crawlers and are way too fast. Ryann pulls herself up on
anything and everything - constantly - and has begun standing by herself
for a couple seconds at a time (definitely not encouraging that skill).
Bryn has made major progress over the last few days in the crawling
department - she does things on her own time. Hadley is our spunky
little babe - pretty sure she's going to be keeping us busy in the years
to come. You can't imagine how many times the word "no" has come out of
my mouth over the last month - I'm pretty sure we hit gazillion awhile
ago!
I'll be playing catch-up over the next few days... For now, a few
pictures from the October weekend I was away at a conference...
