Return of Winter, stomach bug, & other random stuff

Two and a half weeks in, and I gave up... I often think about what I should have jotted down as I'm falling asleep at night. I even contemplate getting up and going and writing something down, but then I think about the energy that requires and decide that I'm too comfortable... So, instead I'll continue my random, all-over-the-place updates.

First, to quickly recap the last week or so... We took the girls out to eat (Buffalo Wild Wings) before Gama headed home - Trav and I have decided we're even willing to tackle doing it ourselves. The biggest 'problem' is just getting into the restaurant. The girls aren't getting any lighter - do I dare wish that they could walk?! nah - I just need to work out more! We enjoyed some nice weather before it became winter once again - even got a few walks in. However, with the return of winter also came our first "bug"... Ryann has been dealing with some disgusting stomach bug since last Wednesday/Thursday. At first, I thought it was just her getting a tooth - her diapers are a sure sign of a tooth, but this was something new. Travis then blamed the eggs (they had scrambled eggs for breakfast); however, since she'd already had a couple of nasties before breakfast, I doubted that was the problem (Trav still thinks we should stay away from eggs...). Anyway, sure enough - she's caught something and is still not quite back to normal. Hadley seems to have [finally] gotten some form of it as well - now we're just waiting on Brynley.

Overall, Ryann has turned into one giant snuggle-bug. She's likes to "love" on anything (and everything) soft. I have to admit, it's pretty darn cute. She also likes to throw balls - her arm is getting pretty good, though her aim needs a bit of work. Last week she was throwing the ball back into the hippo (Trav informed me tonight that it's actually a dinosaur, but I'll stick with calling it a hippo) and sort of nailed Hadley right in the head... at least we think she was aiming for the hippo. Hmmm, maybe not? Since Ryann hasn't been feeling the best the other two have been ganging up on her - the poor dear gets it from both of them - poking and stealing frogger... just general orneriness, always entertained around our house!

In other news - Bryn is back to her fun cheesy self! She 'returned' early last week, with the new-found ability to get down after pulling herself up. Yes, you've probably heard of those children that sometimes have trouble with this - I'd be willing to bet that most go through this dilemma at some point - it's just they go through it much faster than our Bryn... We've decided she is definitely not our daredevil (ahem, Hadley) - and it must have just looked too scary to try. But last week it was so cute, on Monday we'd need to be next to and count it out for her "Okay Bryn, let's get down on 1, 2, 3" and then she'd sit. By Monday evening we just needed to count. Then on Tuesday, we would just suggest getting down (and of course cheering when she did). She'd slowly reach down til her fingertips touched the ground, then she'd go... seriously cute stuff here. By Wednesday she was a pro... too funny, it only took her a month and a half to work up the nerve! Love my girls!

Hadley is our mover and our shaker... she's is always on the GO! She gets behind one of those push-cart-thing-a-ma-jigs and I swear she sprints. Why do I have a feeling she's not simply going to learn to walk, but rather will learn to run? Yikes. She is also definitely a toddler - she has a "pooping corner" - it's one of her favorite places to play and do her business. Hadley LOVES the dogs - a little too much. Right now all the girls are fascinated with eyes and ears - the dogs don't really appreciate them trying to grab either... not to mention their tails (though they're less irritated by this). Her favorite is to give them kisses... unfortunately her kisses are open-mouth - yep, you just "eeewed" didn't you?!

When the girls aren't fighting with, or stealing from one another - they're actually starting to play together as well... Their tunnel is a source of huge laughs - one or two of them go in the tunnel while the third stands outside and pokes at them. It draws HUGE laughs and giggles every time. It's so much fun to see them play together - they'll play peekaboo with one another, as well as "mine" - which is a super fun game where one sticks out a toy or lovey and "pretends" to give it to the other. Mind you, it's "pretend" because if the other actually takes it from the one playing the game is over and ends in tears. However, if everyone plays by the rules - it's just a bunch of sticking out toys/loveys and then "MINE". Like I said, super fun. In addition to "Mine", the girls like playing roll-the-ball with mom and dad. Bryn is probably the best at it - she loves to roll the ball back and forth with either Travis or me... She is NOT a fan of playing with her sisters - I guess she's worried they might steal it? Who knows...

Travis and I got to go on a day-date this past weekend. Mollie gave us tickets to the Creighton basketball game on Saturday, along with babysitting - so she and Adam watched the girls while we went and grabbed a bite to eat and then went to the game. It was so nice to be out! I think it had been at least 6 years since I'd been at a basketball game! And it was the FIRST time someone other than our parents watched the girls while we went out... we're growing up.

That's about it for now. We're hoping the stomach bug is on its way out... we'd also like a break from new teeth (5 or 6 news ones between the 3 of them since Christmas). All of them decided to get their fangs rather than their front teeth - that should make for some really cute pictures in a few months (nope, not normal as our doctor informed us). I haven't really taken any new pictures since their birthday... Need to get on that. Anyway, some friends posted a couple articles over the past few weeks that I've really liked and thought I'd share them on here... til next time... Happy January!

Putting it into perspective...
Hard is hard

Year 1, Week 1

If you've read my last few posts I've complained about how quickly time seems to speed by... and how behind I seem to be in baby (or are they toddlers?) updates. So, I've decided to try to write a sentence or two each night with any updates that happen throughout the day (tidbits), as well as a thought or two focusing on the positive (blessings), things that get us through the LONG days...
Since I have yet to start on any baby books (I do have drawers of 'stuff' for each of our darlings), this continues to be written for them... whether they'll ever care to read it, I don't know! At any rate, we'll see how it goes - but with time flying by the way it does, I feel like I need to do SOMETHING to try to capture as many moments as I can... especially considering how many brain cells seem to be dying off a weekly basis!
Year 1, Week 1
January 1st
Tidbit: What we learned today, the girls may be 1, but eggs do NOT agree with their little bellies! Wow, those were some rank diapers – we had to light candles, it was seriously that bad.
Blessing: We are so blessed to have three healthy little girls… What a difference a year makes – I cannot believe how much they’ve grown and changed in such a short period of time. We may have our hands full – but I’m thankful every day that we were blessed with our three little miracles.
January 2nd
Tidbit: I learned that while plain yogurt is a good substitute for milk in mac and cheese, vanilla yogure is not so good… Luckily the girls don’t seem to mind. Note to self: READ before dumping.
Blessing: I may be exhausted at the end of every day, and the girls might frustrate me from time to time, but nothing beats hearing them “talk” to each other when we put them down for the night… Their sweet voices can’t help but bring a smile to my (weary) face!
January 3rd
Tidbit: Hadley figured out the Hippos toy – put the balls back in that it spits out… a game that goes on for hours. The girls tried fish for the first time, and like it… still haven’t found much they don’t like! Brynley is having a rough time – happy or grumpy and not much in between. Baby Signing Time can now hold their attention for 10 minutes (more for Bryn). Ryann now likes to snuggle.
Blessing: We are so blessed to have such loving family and friends… their generosity is apparent in the emails, messages, and gifts received! I hope the girls will grow to appreciate how much they are loved and pay it forward.
January 5th
Tidbit: Doctor’s appointment went well! Girls are healthy and growing… and have two more months to get off bottles (uh oh). Ryann weighed in at 19 lbs 1 oz and is 29 inches! She’s in the 17th percentile for weight and the 46th for height. Hadley weighed in at 17 lbs 4 oz and is 29.25 inches (she’s the tallest!), falling in the 2.9th percentile and 54th percentile respectively. Brynley is once again our peanut. She weighed in at 16 lbs 15.5 oz and is 28 inches, falling in the 2nd and 17th percentiles. Those are ACTUAL age percentiles – not adjusted!
Blessing: The doctor’s report is one big blessing… they managed to stay healthy for an entire year! While we know they’ll eventually get sick, we’re so blessed to have made it through this first year healthy—meaning all energy could be focused on growing. Thank you Lord.
January 6th
Tidbit: Ryann signed milk! Mollie’s been working the girls and maybe it’s starting to pay off? We’ve also witnessed more and all done – however after signing all done Ryann continued to eat, so I’m not sure if she really meant it! Aunt Bre arrived, and I think she likes Mega-blocks even more than Travis does (which is A LOT). The girls are going to have to fight these two for blocks! Papa, Grandma, and Aunt Hilary rolled into town after the girls were in bed, ready to enjoy a birthday-filled weekend.
Blessing: Despite not wanting a birthday, I am blessed to have so many people take the time and care enough to with me a wonderful day.
January 7th
Tidbit: Family is a wonderful thing. Gama arrived this afternoon, and the girls had a full day of being loved by all their favorite people! However, we need a bigger house! Travis, Bre, Hilary, and I went out for dinner and drinks… great food + great company = great birthday night out!
Blessing: We are so blessed to have grandparents who get along… Thank you Papa, Grandma, and Gama for babysitting and giving us “big kids” a night out!

In the blink of an eye...

How does a year pass in the blink of an eye? How did we we survive? How can our babies be 1 year old? How can I get back some of those moments??? So many emotions and thoughts have gone through my mind in the past 24 hours... I don't think I was this hormonal my whole pregnancy - don't ask Travis.
Putting the girls to bed last night made me teary, we put them down in 2011 and they wake up not only in a new year, but as 1 year olds?! That's a lot to take. Perhaps part of what makes me sad is the fact that I don't know that we'll ever experience any of these different, crazy, funny stages ever again. Whereas most people who have three kids get to experience the 6/9/12-month stage three different times, we "get" to do it all at once... and since we're so busy surviving any given stage - it sometimes makes it hard to just simply enjoy. So, that is my #1 New Year's resolution - to enjoy more and stress less. With one day down, I'd say we're off to a great start!
The girls gave us a present this morning and slept until 8 - guess they partied in their cribs last night and didn't invite us! We had a family day - lots of play time with mom and dad, hopefully they enjoyed it as much as we did! We even did cake with them - more than a little messy and straight to the tub they went! Ryann liked the cake the best (Big Bird cake) - while Bryn had fun painting everything green (she had an Oscar the Grouch cake) and Hadley painted herself red (Elmo cake). We're having their birthday party next Sunday with grandparents and aunts in attendance... they'll get to open presents then - right now we're still enjoying Christmas gifts!
We have so much to be thankful for - which brings me to my second resolution - to write down our daily blessings... I may not be able to stop time, but I can try to record snapshots of it so I can revisit moments as the days and years pass.
Happy 1st Birthday to our little miracles...
Ryann, Brynley, & Hadley - 1 year old
Ryann Gale - 1 year
Hadley Marie - 1 year
Too much light coming in, but the girls in their birthday hats... before Bryn started screaming bloody-murder.
Hadley can push both at once!
Brynley Cade - she did not want her picture taken
Ryann Gale - "SO BIG!"
Hadley Marie - Just hanging in the chair
Birthday Party with Mom & Dad!
Bryn, Ryann, & Hadley - about to Dig In!
Brynley: This is kind of weird...
Ryann: So what exactly are we supposed to do?
Hadley: This feels funny
Ryann overcame her issue and decided she likes frosting!
Brynley was the green monster!
Hadley loved Elmo...
Evidence... Bena decided to help clean up by licking the tablecloth - with both paws up on the table... naughty dog.
