How can my babies turn 9 months tomorrow?! It doesn't seem possible... and while each day we cheer on their attempts to become more independent, it also kind of breaks my heart. In one weeks time Ryann figured out how to crawl, hold her bottle, and got her first tooth. All very exciting developments, but on the flip side - I have to admit I'm kind of sad to see the girls grow up so fast. I suppose that's one of the downsides of having triplets - we're so focused on getting through each day and helping the girls become more independent (try feeding three babies at one time and you can see why this is something we really encourage), yet we're not sure that we'll ever get to do some of these things again - it's a catch-22 and something we'll be dealing with for many years to come!
The girls have their 9-month appointment on Monday and we're excited to meet their new pediatrician and find out how they're doing. In our opinion they're wonderful (and according to Grandma Miles - they're "perfect"... we haven't asked for her definition of perfect however!) We have days that are trying (ask Gama P about no-nap Ryann or Hadley) but overall the good days far outweigh those that are trying. We've also hired a nanny! Yeah!!! We're so excited for Mollie to start - it will be wonderful to get into a set routine and let the grandparents just be grandparents when they come for a visit.
As of this morning between the three girls we have 2 teeth (Ryann and Hadley), though we're expecting Brynley's first tooth to pop up any time (she's acting exactly as Hadley did on Monday and her tooth appeared on Tuesday). Ryann's the only one truly crawling - and boy is she getting faster by the day. At night she likes to follow dad out of their bedroom and into the bathroom across the hall (he gives the girls their bath) - she's still not sure about the tiled floor... very different from carpet so she'll try to crawl without using her knees... not so successful! Hadley is beginning to master army crawling, and boy can that girl pivot! She gets pretty much wherever she wants to go, and we're trying to help her learn how to crawl (hand, hand, knee, knee). Brynley - the first one actually up on all fours - still scoots backwards and is quite happy about it. We know it's just a matter of time. The girls love "petting" (grabbing) the dogs and are quite fascinated with their paws. Surprisingly, Bena is the most cooperative about this new found love - Tehya isn't quite sure she needs any additional loving from her buddies! They're all trying out new sounds these days and some of the sounds are quite odd... no one is really babbling yet, but they are actually starting to sounds like they're "talking". I realized yesterday how crazy it will be when they are all able to talk - yikes, and here I was just worried about mobility!
Overall, we continue to feel so blessed... especially with the arrival of October. It was just over a year ago that our world was shaken with the finding that two of our babies were seriously sick. I feel sick every time I think about that time and the uncertainty - sometimes I just sit and stare at Brynley in awe of all she went through in utero... and then Travis and I sit and see three happy (usually) and healthy little girls and can't believe we're their parents.
